(Don Bosco Technological Institute, Port Moresby) – With the theme “Sharing the Path and Journey Together for Success”, the Industrial Dinner hosted by Don Bosco Technological Institute was held on the evening of June 16, 2025, in the beautifully decorated school gymnasium. Representatives from both public and private sector organizations were in attendance, showing their support through their presence.
The event began with welcoming speeches from the school administration. Fr. Anand Noronha, SDB, Vice Rector and Vice President for Finance and Administration, opened the evening by thanking the guests.
“You have all chosen to be a part of this function because of a mutual passion we share – for the future of our country and for supporting the mission of our institution: the education and uplifting of our nation’s youth,” Fr. Anand said. He added that the evening was an opportunity to reconnect, recharge, and recommit to the excellence everyone strives for.
Following him, Dr. Catherine Nongkas, Vice President for Academic and Technical Affairs, addressed the guests by highlighting DBTI’s progress since its establishment. She acknowledged the ongoing challenge of securing In-Plant Training (IPT) placements for students and expressed hope that the evening would serve as a bridge to strengthen collaboration between DBTI and industries to address these challenges.
Mr. Leslie Brown, Area Coordinator for the Mechanical Department, then emphasized the institute’s technical strengths and the importance of holistic education.
“DBTI produces young people who are trained for life through integral education – combining academic knowledge with values and life skills,” he said.
Amidst entertainment and good music, several organizations shared their experiences with DBTI trainees and graduates. Representatives from Remington Group, SP Brewery, and TE PNG spoke highly of the DBTI students who had interned or worked with them, noting that many were employed immediately after graduation due to their technical expertise and servant leadership.
Adding excitement and a joyful tone to the evening, Mr. Steven Nadi, a representative from New Britain Palm Oil, shared his positive feedback on DBTI graduates who passed through their Graduate Development Program. He particularly praised female graduates for driving positive change in their workplaces through their leadership, skills, and values. They are always completing tasks on time, are always on time for work and have positively influenced their colleagues and the effects of that can be seen in the productivity of the workspaces they are occupying. Their outstanding performances have set standards in their workplaces, thus encouraging change and growth in NBPOL.
The night concluded with live music from a vibrant band and a fulfilling dinner, leaving guests inspired and connected through shared commitment to empowering Papua New Guinea’s future workforce.
