(Sacred Heart Theological College, Shillong) – Sacred Heart Theological College celebrated the Golden Jubilee of its reopening (1976–2026) with a vibrant two-day programme on May 16 and 17, bringing together priests, religious, formees, youth, and lay collaborators in a spirit of thanksgiving and renewal

Held under the theme “Shepherds in the Making… Shaped by His Heart – Expressions of Mission: A Mosaic,” the celebration highlighted the institution’s enduring mission to form priests and religious leaders rooted in the love of Christ.

The Jubilee festivities featured a colourful blend of dramas, dances, instrumental performances, talks, and visual presentations creatively presented by the Brothers and Sisters of the College. Through these artistic expressions, participants reflected on the mission of priestly and religious formation inspired by the Heart of Jesus.

The first day of the celebration was dedicated to priests, religious, and formees. Sr. Mable Dhar, VSDB, Mother General of the Visitation Sisters of Don Bosco, attended the event as the Chief Guest. The gathering became a moment of gratitude for the blessings received over the past fifty years and an occasion to honour the dedication and sacrifices of those involved in forming future shepherds of the Church. Around 650 priests, religious, and formees participated in the programme.

The second day focused on youth and lay collaborators, underlining their important role in the Church’s mission. Fr. Edmund Gomes SDB, former Rector of the College, served as the Chief Guest and emphasised the urgent need for vocations and committed shepherds in the Church. He also encouraged parents to support young people in responding generously to God’s call. Nearly 600 youth participated enthusiastically in the celebration.

The Golden Jubilee celebrations concluded as a powerful testament to the college’s continuing mission to shape generations of committed shepherds for the service of the Church and society.
