This year’s focus is twofold: reflecting on the progress of current initiatives and preparing for the IUS General Assembly in 2026, a landmark event aimed at shaping the future of Salesian higher education.

The two-day program is designed to foster meaningful interactions, in-depth discussions, and strategic planning. The day began with the Holy Eucharist celebrated by the Rector Major, Fr. Fabio Attard. The opening session included the initial self-introductions and the interaction with Fr. Fabio Attard.

The agenda for Day 1 included, presentation of Regional Stories & Reports from the Coordinators from Africa, Europe, South Asia, East Asia, and South America, sharing updates on regional conferences and initiatives, highlighting successes and challenges. The day concluded with a guided Visit to the Museum of Don Bosco and Sacro Cuore Basilica, emphasizing the cultural and spiritual heritage of the Salesian mission.

Day 2 will address critical topics such as Preparations for the 2026 General Assembly, including venue, themes, and logistics. Participants will discuss IUS website maintenance, database management, and contract renewals to ensure operational efficiency. A significant portion of the agenda is dedicated to collaborative planning for the Jubilee of Education (Oct. 27 – Nov. 2, 2025), with emphasis on participation, processes, and training. The day will conclude with Fr. Rafael Bejarano summarizing decisions and outlining next steps for strengthening the IUS network.

Founded in the late 1990s, IUS now comprises 97 institutions across 22 countries, serving over 160,000 students with the support of 8,175 faculty members. Rooted in Salesian pedagogy, these institutions integrate academic rigor with holistic development, guided by the vision of Don Bosco.

As the participants engage in discussions over the next two days, the 20th IUS board meeting is poised to become a cornerstone event in the history of Salesian higher education. By addressing global challenges and fostering collaboration, the meeting reinforces the congregation’s dedication to empowering young people to create a more just and compassionate world.

Through this annual gathering, the IUS network reaffirms its role as a global force for educational transformation, deeply rooted in the values and mission of Don Bosco.
