(Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, Quito) -The Mechanical Engineering Trends – MET2021 Congress was held from the 24th to the 26th of March; it was attended by businessmen, researchers, students and professors from different important universities, research groups and companies in the country in order to present the latest scientific, academic and technological advances in mechanical engineering nationally and internationally.
The Congress was organized by 4 Ecuadorian universities: Escuela Politécnica Nacional (EPN), Universidad Técnica del Norte (UTN), Escuela Politécnica Superior de Chimborazo (ESPOCH) and Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (UPS).
There were workshops, keynote speeches and talks led by 78 speakers from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Spain and the USA. The topics were on materials, energy engineering, design and manufacturing, robotics and control systems, bioengineering, innovation and education on mechanical engineering, energy efficiency, renewable energy and thermofluids.
The congress was inaugurated by Florinella Muñoz, president of EPN, who spoke about how research is imperative in universities. “It is through research that we can have relevant and up to date teaching. An event like this one supports teaching, it transforms it and guides professors and students to explore new fields. Research also encourages community engagement, that’s where we present solutions to real problems”.
The congress was also attended by Juan Pablo Salgado, head of research at UPS; Marcelo Cevallos, president of UTN; Byron Vaca, president of ESPOCH and other university representatives.
UPS professors and students presented the following research projects:
Professors Christian Juiña, William Quitiaquez, Jorge Fajardo, Nancy Moreno, Sonia Guaño, Xavier Vaca, and Víctor Cabrera were part of the organizing committee and reviewers.
In the closing ceremony, Maria Sol Villagomez, vice president of our branch campus in Quito stated that “the congress enabled participants to present important advances in this field. It has been an opportunity for science, technology, and learning. I hope we have created new academic, research, and cooperation networks for the development of new technologies for society”.
