The IUS are Higher Education Institutions of Christian inspiration, guided by values from the Gospel and Salesian pedagogy based on the Preventive System lived by Don Bosco. As such, they are characterized by being academic communities with an institutional project committed to serving the young, particularly those from popular sectors, with a clear educational-pastoral purpose and educational and cultural impact in society.

As Catholic Higher Education Institutions, IUS´s pursue to “assists in the protection and advancement of human dignity and of a cultural heritage through research, teaching and various services offered to the local, national and international communities” (John Paul II, Apostolic Constitution, On Catholic Universities, Ex Corde Ecclesiae, 1990). As Salesians, they have the specific mission of “promoting the integral development of the youth by the assimilation and critical lecture of the culture and through education in the faith, in order to the Christian transformation of society” (Society of Saint Francis of Sales, Regulations, 13).
