(Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, Quito) – The Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (UPS) was accredited five more years by the Quality Assurance of Higher Education Council (CACES for its acronym in Spanish) after having achieved all the quality standards determined by the University Evaluation Model according to the accreditation methodology.
The process started in September 2019, four aspects were evaluated: teaching, research, community engagement and conditions of the university.
“Based on a schedule, there were technical and on-site visits to the university campuses with external evaluators, the evaluation model was presented to internal departments, the requested information was prepared and sent through the SIIES platform”, stated Germán Parra, head of Planning, Evaluation and Accreditation at UPS.
During the visits, the evaluating committee interviewed the university officials, as well as the administrative staff, teachers, and students to gain an in-depth understanding of the university’s work.
“This requires understanding that accreditation is not the end of a process but on the contrary it is the beginning of a new phase; all evaluation is based on continuous improvement. May our institutional values be the aspect that accredits us in a quality service to young people, our particular way of understanding the academy: transcendence, familiarity, co-responsibility, solidarity and honesty”.
– Fr. Juan Cárdenas, President of the UPS

The accreditation certificate was awarded in the city of Cuenca and the event was attended by Juan Manuel Garcia, president of CACES; Juan Cardenas, UPS president; Pablo Vanegas, Universidad de Cuenca president; Fransisco Salgado Universidad del Azuay president; and Enrique Pozo, Universidad Católica de Cuenca president.
