(Quito, Ecuador) – On 27 March Fr Marcelo Farfán, General Coordinator of the Salesian Institutions of Higher Education (IUS), visited the international community of the Salesian postnovitiate “San Francisco de Asís” in Quito . Currently, 17 pre-novices are being formed from the Provinces of Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru. Academic training takes place at the School of Philosophy of the Salesian Polytechnic University (UPS) which is part of the IUS. During the sharing with the Salesians of the community, Fr Farfán presented the higher education sector of the Salesian Congregation, discussing the challenges of accompanying young university students and the need to have Salesians capable of transmitting the Salesian charism in the academic world. The School of Philosophy of the UPS welcomes students from various religious institutes and also lay people who are looking for a serious academic formation that helps them to face their educational and pastoral tasks, especially in the Latin American context. Fr Robert García, Director of both the formation community and the School of Philosophy, underlined the importance of the intellectual dimension in the formative stage of the postnovitiate, and thanked Fr Farfán for his visit.
