National Renewable Energy Day” is celebrated by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Govt. of Indiaon 20th August- the birthday of Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi- to spread awareness about the development and adoption of renewable energy in India. Climate change is for real and we are able to see its impact more evidently today because it is affecting every life form.  Discussions, education and appropriate action in line can bring about a positive change; that the coming years may be safe and secure for our children and our children’s children. The northeast is blessed abundantly with natural resources and scenic beauty. We realise that just having trees and mountains in our immediate surroundings may not ensure a safe environment, but a large scale and widespread effort and care for nature and resources is needed. If not, natural and man made calamities can sweep out nature and with it the culture and identity of the tribes and peoples of the region.
