(Sacred Heart College, Tirupathur) – The 71st College Day Celebration of Sacred Heart College was conducted on May 7, 2022, at 5.30 p.m. on the college grounds. The college day event gathered over 6000 staff, students, parents, and well-wishers.
The gathering was welcomed by Rev. Dr. John Alexander, SDB, the college’s Rector and Secretary, as well as the Chief Guest Shri. D.M. Kathir Anand, honorable member of Parliament – Lok Sabha, Vellore Constituency, and the Guest of Honour Dr. Kaveriammal, the Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Vellore.
The Additional Principal, Vice-Principals, Administrators, Deans, and Heads of several departments received mementos for their contributions to the college’s growth and development. Students were recognized for their achievements in academics and extracurricular activities. Meritorious pupils were also given scholarships and awards.
Rev. Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj, SDB, Principal of the college, presented the annual report for the year 2021-22 in digital format, highlighting the college’s accomplishments.
The Chief Guest, Shri. D.M. Kathir Anand, Member of Parliament – Lok Sabha, Vellore Constituency, praised the Salesian Community, staff, and students for their academic achievements. He was nostalgic for his days as a student in Don Bosco , Egmore. He remarked that he is who he is today due of Don Bosco’s then-principals and instructors’ supervision and loving care. He expressed his delight at being welcomed as a Chief Guest by his own teacher, Rev. Dr. John Alexander SDB, the college’s Rector and Secretary. He cautioned pupils in his address to keep their thoughts focused because the world is full with competition and adversity. He pushed pupils to taste success at least once, and he promised that if they did, they would love it. He observed that time and tide do not wait for anyone, and time is one of the most important aspects for a learner. He encouraged pupils to set a life goal and work toward it. He encouraged pupils to follow in the footsteps of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who once said, “You must dream before your wishes may come true.”He urged students to run for elections and take roles in government by becoming Ministers, MLAs, IAS and IPS etc. He closed his address by encouraging students to be more grateful to their parents, as they are attending a prestigious college because of their parents’ sacrifices.
A dream is not anything one sees while sleeping, but rather something that keeps one awake. A dream should transform one’s thoughts into outcomes, and those outcomes into actions
In her address to the gathering, the Guest of Honour, Dr. Kaveriammal, Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Vellore, praised and congratulated the professors and students on their accomplishments. She inspired students by recounting her personal difficulties and ascension to the position of Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Vellore. She emphasized that in order to succeed, students must study hard, be true, honest, and self-disciplined. She also encouraged children to be grateful to their parents, calling it the most divine of all virtues.
In honour of Ravi P. Agarwal, a prominent Indian mathematician, Dr. G. Britto Antony Xavier, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, published an International Journal of Mathematica containing 25 peer reviewed articles. The college day also featured a number of cultural performances performed by students. Rev. Dr. K.A. Maria Arokiaraj, SDB, Additional Principal, Rev. Sathiyanathan, SDB, Administrator, Rev. Fr. Daniel Ambrose, Director, Extension Education & Services, Deans, Heads of the Departments, faculty and students graced the occasion. Rev. Dr. G. Theophil Anand, SDB, Vice-Principal, delivered the vote of thanks (Admin. Shift II).
