"The Salesian Mission" & and the First DBHEI awards ceremony on the second day of the IUS South Asia Conference

 

(IUS South Asia Conference, Chennai) – The theme “The Salesian Mission” was the second day’s theme for the Eucharistic Celebration which had Fr. K.M. Jose SDB Provincial, Salesian Province of Chennai as Main celebrant. The identity and Mission of the Church in Higher Education Institutions was day 2’s first session. It was addressed by Dr John Alexander, SDB Rector, Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur.

 

Dr. Michal Vojtas, SDB Professor & Vice Rector Salesian Pontifical University addressed the participants under the title “The Preventive System in Salesian Higher Education”. As a final session of the IUS assembly, there was a specific session on “Campus Ministry in the IUS” which had wonderful sharing from different HEIs about campus ministry. Fr. Joe Andrew SDB Rector, Beatitudes, Vyarsarpadi, Chennai animated the participants with deep insights and thoughts

 

The First DBHEI awards ceremony was held later in the evening with the Assembly Valediction. Fr. Januarius S Sangma SDB President & Provincial i/c Higher Education, Provincial, Salesian Province of Guwahati honored during the award ceremony

The Award Processes and Guidelines for Best Entrepreneurial Innovation, Best Teacher and Best Don Bosco Youth Parliament were presented during the General Body meeting held on 5th May 2021. The Idea and decision for instituting these awards carry forward with specific mentors or support providers Best Entrepreneurial Innovation award entrusted to – Forum for Innovation Incubation Research and Entrepreneurship (FiiRE), INP Fr K.O Sebastian was put in charge to overlook Best Teacher but to make the process faster we have requested experts to evaluate the proposal and reports of the teachers.

 

NATIONAL AWARD FOR “Best Entrepreneurial Innovation”, for STUDENTS which has prize money worth INR 45,000 given to three award winners of our DBHEIs. Due to exam the students weren’t present thus principals and college representatives collected the winners certificcates.

 

The winners are:

1. Natalia Clara Lingdo from st. Antony’s Shillong Province. ( She presented a start-up for making paper bags from waste materials.

2. Sidharth Babu, belonging to Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur, INM ( His presentation was on how to produce electricity from Spirunilla ( a fungus) using Tannery effluents.

3. Yuvalakshmi and Yusra Khanam from SHC,TPT of INM( showed how chocolates could be produced from a mixture of seeds through a process of seed cycling.

 

National Award for Best Innovative Practices in Teaching, Learning and Evaluation for faculty was given to the faculty winners with a cash prize worth 10,000 each. Winners presented their ideas and shared their experiences and ideas. They showed great signs of gratitude to the DBHEI for this initiative.

 

Winners are

1. Dhirendra Nevar from Siliguri, INC: IQAC tracker for activity responses.

2. Madan Kumar from Thirukazhkundram, INM:” On Implementation of NEP”

3. Yesudas Antonydas Muthu – Panjim College of Engineering – INP: Activity-based learning through innovative tools.

 

Dhirendra Nevar couldn’t take part. The was collected by Fr Nimarl Toppo INC on his behalf!. After the conclusion of the assembly special dinner and games were arranged at Don Bosco Egmore!
