(Universidad Salesiana UNISAL, Bahía Blanca) – On Tuesday, 28 September, the Salesian University (Unisal) inaugurated the Pope Francis Module in Costa Blanca, a neighbourhood on the outskirts of Bahía Blanca. With the blessing of the University Rector, Fr Guillermo Tanos, the curricular outreach project will take place at the headquarters of the Costa Blanca development company.
Psychology and law students from UNISAL will have the opportunity to carry out supervised internships and lend a hand to the neighbourhood. Inspired by Pope Francis’ statement, ‘We believe that education is one of the most effective ways to humanise the world and history’, UNISAL, through its Salesian Interdisciplinary Centre for Community Assistance, will be able to respond to the multiple needs of Costa Blanca residents.
With this project, Unisal intends to encourage the circulation of knowledge between the academic and local levels, so as to unhinge sometimes very academic logic from a negative perspective. The students’ contact with reality makes knowledge acquire a fuller meaning,’ said the Rector of UNISAL during the opening ceremony.
A Salesian festive oratory has already been operating in the area for some time, and now UNISAL is launching this curricular extension project that not only aims to transform the neighbourhood, but also offers the university the opportunity to bring its students and all academic life to the area, providing concrete services to a specific reality.
