(Salesian College Siliguri) – The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of the Salesian College Autonomous Siliguri celebrated its 10th Anniversary and World Photography Day on 19 August with a Photography Workshop, Short Film, Stop-Motion, and Photo Story competitions.

 

The five-hour event began with the Decennial theme song “We Shall Arise,” composed and performed by Assistant Professor Mr. Simon Subba and his team of students from the fifth semester.

 

The department started with six students joining the Mass Communication and Journalism undergraduate program in 2014. Today, it has some 90 students in the three-year program and another 80 students in the first four-year dual major program batch.

 

The HoD and Assistant Professor of Salesian College, Mr. Bhabya Chandra Khati, gave a visual presentation of the department’s decade-long journey, recalling former faculty members, outstanding students, flagship events, and unique facilities like Radio Salesian 90.8 FM and Salesian TV. The students use the broadcasting facility for weekly radio and television news coverage of the Siliguri and Darjeeling campuses.

 

Creative Director of Beyond Crimson, Siliguri, a multidisciplinary integrated marketing communications agency, Mr. Nishal Lama, held a two-hour workshop on Photography, giving a live demo on the use of light in Corporate Photography and engaging students in an interactive Q & A session.

 

The event concluded with screening competition films, an award ceremony, and a cake cutting.
