(Università Pontificia Salesiana, Roma) – The new website of the Don Bosco Library at the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS) has been launched and is available at biblioteca.unisal.it. The new portal, created with the support of the UPS Communications and Development Office, has been designed to offer students, lecturers, researchers and scholars a modern, intuitive and easily accessible tool to discover and use the Library’s services, whilst at the same time promoting its cultural and scientific heritage.
The Don Bosco Library is one of the most important specialist bibliographic centres in the fields of theology, philosophy, pedagogy, psychology, communication, Salesian studies and socio-economic studies. Its collection comprises over 600,000 bibliographic items, around 6,000 periodicals and numerous collections of particular historical and documentary value. Among these, the ‘Marega Collection’ stands out, a valuable collection of documents relating to the history, culture and religious life of Japan, which has been fully digitised thanks to collaboration with Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto.
The new website provides simple and immediate access to information on library services, opening hours, consultation and borrowing procedures, digital resources and the main search tools. The homepage also offers direct access to the Unisal Catalogue and Unisal Discovery for integrated searching of print and digital resources, as well as to remote access services and procedures for requesting materials.
The portal also serves as a focal point for publicising the cultural initiatives promoted by the Library, including exhibitions, conferences, book launches and academic events, thereby helping to strengthen the dialogue between the academic community and the world of research.
The launch of the new website represents a further step in the innovation of the services offered by the Pontifical Salesian University and confirms the Don Bosco Library’s commitment to placing knowledge at the service of research, formation and cultural development, combining the richness of the library’s tradition with the opportunities offered by digital technologies.
