The Regional Meeting of Delegates from the Salesian Institutions of Higher Education (IUS) of the two African Regions was held in Lomé, Togo from 5 to 7 October. Coordinated by the General Councillor for Youth Ministry, Fr Rafel Bejarano, the meeting enabled participants to strengthen their collaboration and fellowship, whilst always bearing in mind the guidelines of GC29 and the appeals of the Rector Major, Fr Fabio Attard, so that higher education institutions may remain spaces for the growth and accompaniment of young people — especially the poorest, most vulnerable and marginalised — towards integral human development, a formation that fosters value, responsible citizenship and a life of dignity.

(Institut Supérieur Don Bosco, Togo) – The Regional Meeting of Delegates from the Salesian Institutions of Higher Education (IUS) of the two African Regions was held in Lomé, Togo from 5 to 7 October.

The proceedings of this meeting focused on:

– Sharing the realities (strengths, challenges, opportunities and future prospects) of each Higher Institute;

– The pastoral vision to be continually nurtured within higher institutes to ensure accompaniment rooted in the charism;

– The presentation of the vision, mission, key identifying criteria, values, the importance of networking today, and the strategic pillars of the African network.

In addition to these sessions of formation, reflection and exchange, participants were also able to experience first-hand the reality of the ‘Don Bosco’ higher education institution in Lomé through guided tours, meetings with students, moments of fellowship and communal prayer.

In a spirit of community and fraternity, the proceedings proved to be a genuine opportunity for renewal and a reaffirmation of commitment to the leadership of  IUS in Africa for the benefit of young people.
