(ANS – Mestre) – On the evening of 10 September 2026, Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, Metropolitan Archbishop of Bologna and President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, was presented with the Ethical Champion award. The award was presented on the sidelines of the Mestre Politics Festival, organised by the Gianni Pellicani Foundation since 2011 to foster the convergence of languages, knowledge and different interpretative perspectives, by two young women associated with the Salesian University Institute, Venice (IUSVE) and contributors to the university radio station Cube Radio: student Giulia Miazzo and recent graduate Giulia Gatto.
The award from Cube Radio and IUSVE for ethics in communication was presented to Cardinal Zuppi for a communicative style that places listening, dialogue, peace and respect for others at the centre. This choice aims to emphasise that being an Ethical Champion does not depend on the number of followers or daily presence on social media, but on the ability to demonstrate, through words and behaviour, a responsible and authentically human way of communicating.
“With this award,” said Fr Nicola Giacopini, director of IUSVE, “we wish to emphasise that communication means, first and foremost, taking responsibility for others. Cardinal Zuppi bears witness to how listening, respect and the pursuit of dialogue can become a concrete way of life, particularly significant for the younger generations who inhabit the infosphere every day.”
