(ANS – Lubumbashi) – The Don Bosco University Lubumbashi (UDBL) becomes a reality. The Steering Committee of the project met with permanent staff and students of the Salama (ESIS) Higher School of Informatics and the Higher School of Economic and Political Administration (ECOPO), to announce the launch of this new Salesian institution in the academic year 2023-2024.

The Don Bosco University Lubumbashi consists of the merger of 4 Salesian institutes of higher education, namely the aforementioned ESIS and ECOPO, to which are added the St John Bosco Institute Kansebula and the St Francis de Sales Institute of Theology. The four institutes will merge into a single university centre, where they will take the names of Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of Management and Financial Engineering, Faculty of Human and Social Sciences and Faculty of Theology, respectively. In the near future, the Faculty of Logistics, Banks and Insurance and the Faculty of Polytechnic and Environmental Sciences will also be created.

During the meeting, the Superior of the Central Africa Province (AFC), Fr Guillermo Basañes, gave an address during which he stressed how this will be the first Salesian University to be established in Africa. Its motto, he recalled, will be: Solidarity, Innovation, Work.

The UDBL inherits, therefore, the good reputation and rigour of the institutions from which it was born and maintains the creed of the Salesian Congregation, which is to form good Christians and upright citizens, naturally endowed with important skills on the national and international market.
