(Don Bosco College, Panjim) – On September 18, 2024, Don Bosco College, Panjim, marked a significant milestone with the laying and blessing of the foundation stone for its new building. The occasion reflected the institution’s continuous development and its commitment to providing quality education rooted in Salesian values. This landmark event brought together dignitaries, alumni, staff, students, and the larger Don Bosco community, united in their shared vision for the future of the college.
The Chief Guest for the event was Rev Fr Pascoal Chávez Villanueva, former rector major, the 9th successor of Don Bosco, and the Guest of Honour was Rev Fr Clive Telles, the Salesian Provincial of Panjim (Konkan). Rev Fr Banzelão Teixeira, the Vice Provincial; Rev Fr Francis Silveira, the Economer; Brother James Marques, the Oratory In-charge; Mr Bryan Soares, the architect of the project and Mr David, the building contractor were among the invited guests. The event was also graced by the presence of members of the Salesian community, the benefactors of the college, its staff, alumni and students.
In his address which was chiefly directed towards the young students present, the Chief Guest, Rev Fr Chávez underscored the importance of education in shaping not only individuals but entire communities. Speaking to the students, Fr Chávez said ‘Learn to be happy, learn a skill and be good citizens of the country.’ His words resonated with the audience as he spoke about the significance of laying a strong foundation—both literally and figuratively. The Guest of Honour Rev Fr Telles, in his address to the gathering, highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration in the future growth of the college.
The pivotal moment of the event was the blessing and laying of the foundation stone, led by Rev. Fr Chávez and Rev Fr Telles. Holy articles including a crucifix, a rosary, the relics of St John Bosco, St Dominic Savio, Blessed Michael Rua, Blessed Philip Rinaldi, a picture of Pope Francis and medals of Divine Mercy, the Most Sacred Heart of Mary, St John Bosco, Mary Help of Christians, St Dominic Savio, Our Lady of Lourdes and Our Lady of Perpetual Succour were placed alongside the foundation stone in the niche dug at the project cite. This followed by the unveiling of the plaque commemorating the event. The inscription on the plaque reads thus: “The Foundation Stone of Don Bosco College, Panjim was laid by Very Reverend Fr Pascual Chavez Villanueva, former Rector Major, 9th Successor to Don Bosco, in the presence of Reverend Fr Clive Telles, Salesian Provincial of Panjim (Konkan) on 18 September 2024.”

As the college looks to the future, this new structure will serve as a beacon of hope, progress, and opportunity for generations to come.
