(Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Chennai) – Pongal is a harvest festival celebrated in honour of the farmers in India. It is usually celebrated on a grand scale, especially in South India. The four-day-long harvest , which usually falls in the months of January or February is when crops like rice, sugarcane, turmeric etc. are harvested. Pongal is also the name of the traditional dish consumed on this day. The ingredients for Pongal are sweetened rice boiled with lentils.
Don Bosco college celebrated the annual celebration just like all the previous years. Students showed up in their traditional outfits (Boys in veshti, girls in saree), pongal was made, competitions were conducted, prizes were given. It was a very colourful and exciting event! The Chief Guest for the day was Mr. Jayachandran, actor and comedian.
