(ANS – Berkeley) – In a joint effort to provide the international community with cutting-edge theoretical and managerial tools, the Salesian Center for Ongoing Formation based in Berkeley, California, has announced the official release of its latest work in independent versions in Spanish and English: VOLUME I: THE PROFILE. THE SALESIAN PREVENTIVE COMPETENCE (VOLUMEN I: EL PERFIL. LA COMPETENCIA PREVENTIVA SALESIANA: IDENTIDAD, ESTÁNDARES Y HERRAMIENTAS DE EVALUACIÓN. IDENTITY, STANDARDS AND ASSESMENT TOOLS).
This inaugural text formally opens the way for the collection “THE ART OF ACCOMPANYING”, an ambitious and integrative proposal that will be composed of a total of seven volumes intended to break down the Salesian charism, management and preventive leadership in the twenty-first century.
Written by the director of the center, Dr. Alejandro Rodríguez Rodríguez, SDB, this first bilingual issue is established as the conceptual compass and indispensable map for leaders, managers and coordinators of Salesian works in the five continents.
The work offers a direct response to the incomprehensibility of the current environment (the world BANI – in English: Brittleness, Anxiety, Non-linearity and Incomprehensibility), where educational and pastoral works risk being caught up in empty activism and routine, diluting its essential identity. Dr. Alejandro Rodríguez proposes a radical clarification exercise, defining the Salesian Preventive Competence (CPS) not as a simple technical skill for the curriculum, but as the ontic structure of the Salesian vocation itself in the language of competences.
Both the Spanish edition and the English version offer theoretical, pedagogical and charismatic foundations to consolidate the foundations of the Preventive System in the face of the cultural earthquakes of liquid modernity. The great practical contribution of this initial volume is the delivery of objective evaluation tools and professional rubrics that allow management teams to overcome improvisation and carry out an honest diagnosis of their own profile, under the premise of “Here we are” and “This is what we need to get.”
The Launch of a Global Formative Series
The Salesian Center for Ongoing Formation in Berkeley confirmed that this dual-language release delivers the baseline cartography for global implementation. As the first volume of a 7-book series, this framework initiates a progressive training path. While upcoming volumes like Volume II: The Process will transition deeply into praxis and provincial networking, and later volumes will tackle the architecture of strategic Salesian Preventive Leadership, this opening text secures the identity standards required for administrators and educational and pastoral leaders worldwide.
By launching both editions simultaneously, the center ensures that English and Spanish-speaking Provinces can implement these diagnostic standards concurrently within their local communities of practice.
