(UniSALESIANO, Araçatuba) – The Salesian UniSALESIANO university has invested a large sum to purchase technological devices for the health sector. They have bought tablets, worth approximately 1.6 million Brazilian reais, which will be used by the Municipal Health Department of Araçatuba. The equipment will be destined for the city’s Basic Health Units (UBS, in Portuguese), managed by the Zatti Saúde health centre, through an agreement with the municipality, and used by community health agents and endemic agents.

The initiative aims to optimise the home care provided by the operators, as well as to allow accurate monitoring of the location of the professionals and citizens being assisted. The tablets are compatible with the Gestão Saúde (Health Management) application, through which professionals will be able to make recordings and updates directly during visits.

Before meeting the patient, professionals download the medical records of the micro-area onto the device. In this way, even without Internet access in the field, they are able to record clinical and home information. Upon returning to UBS, the data is automatically synchronised with the system, ensuring faster and more accurate patient monitoring. The system also records clinical information (such as blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, weight and height) and a detailed visit history, including date, time, type of care and geolocation.

According to the Municipal Secretary for Health, Dr Daniel Martins Ferreira Junior, the introduction of the tablets is a big step forward in the digitisation of public health in Araçatuba. ‘The community agent will have real-time access to a lot of data, including that of hypertensives, diabetics, pregnant women and children. This replaces all the paperwork and makes both care and decision-making by the teams more agile,’ he explained.

For her part, the Administrative Pro-Rector of UniSALESIANO, Vanda Aparecida Guilherme de Moura, emphasised the importance of the investment in strengthening regional public health and reiterated the institution’s commitment to the community’s welfare.

‘This is a very important project for public health in the municipality,’ he said, ‘Agents will have access to electronic medical records that facilitate the knowledge of patient information quickly and securely, making care more efficient, accessible and accurate for all those involved in the process. And we at UniSALESIANO are very proud to be part of this project, he concluded.

UniSALESIANO’s Pro-Rector, Dr André Ornellas, also emphasised the institution’s role in creating solutions that have a positive impact on the lives of the population. ‘’As a University Centre committed to human and social development, we believe that investing in technology for health means investing in people’s quality of life. This partnership with the municipality shows that it is possible to combine education, innovation and public service for the benefit of the community,’ he explained.

With the new tablets in operation, population care gains in efficiency, accuracy and speed, directly benefiting residents and modernising the services provided by primary care teams. The primary care coordinator of Zatti Saúde, Dr. Ângelo Jacomossi, also emphasised the speed of the service.

Finally, UniSALESIAN Rector, Salesian Fr Paulo Vendrame, emphasised that technology is great for speeding up processes and results. ‘We understand that health cannot wait, so this tool is important for assisting the population,’ he said. Also according to the Rector, ‘UniSALESIANO, Zatti Saúde and the Municipal Department of Health want to give life to this new moment for Araçatuba.’
