Don Bosco International Media Academy (DBIMA): a Parigi, l’unica scuola salesiana di cinema in Europa si prepara al suo quarto anno accademico

(Don Bosco International Media Academy, Paris) – Have you ever heard of the “Don Bosco International Media Academy” (DBIMA) of Paris? Located in the French capital in the premises adjacent to the National Shrine of St. John Bosco, the school, directed by Fr. John-Paul Swaminathan, a Salesian of Don Bosco and filmmaker, is about to conclude its third year.

“”We are still a young school,” notes Fr. Swaminathan, “but with this Salesian film school, which is unique in Europe, we really want to train young people from all over the world; young people who want to learn the professions related to film and the audiovisual industry.””.

DBIMA is a non-contract higher education institution of the Paris Academy. It welcomes students with the objective of making these studies, often reserved for small groups, accessible to as many young people as possible.

The school offers two degrees aimed at an international audience of students: a bachelor of arts degree in “Cinema and Audiovisual” and a master’s degree in “Film and Audiovisual Art.” The courses are taught in English and prepare students for one of four specializations: directing, image, production and post-production. Both degrees are recognized as “European Bachelor”” and “European Master” degrees by the European Accreditation Board for Schools of Higher Education (EABHES in English).

This international hub was enriched in September 2021 with a Higher Technical Certificate in audiovisual professions, editing and post-production, in apprenticeship mode. Unlike the first two courses, which are fee-based, this Certificate is free for the apprentice, once he or she has found a contract with a company. This certificate, recognized by the French state, sets an intense pace for students and thus prepares them for the world of work.

For all diplomas offered by DBIMA, the transmission of knowledge is ensured by professionals selected for their teaching approach and experience. To ensure quality teaching, the school has acquired significant resources, equipping itself with a teaching staff of more than 25 professors and state-of-the-art equipment.
